Advances in Outdoor LED Lighting
When we mention using LED bulbs in outdoor lighting systems, many people shy away, fearing their home and landscaping will take on an unearthly bluish cast. While that was certainly an issue in the past, thanks to new technology it’s very difficult to tell the difference between LEDs and traditional bulbs anymore. Here are several benefits of choosing LEDs to illuminate your home and landscape.
Extended Life
The lamp life of an LED is roughly 10 times that of an incandescent or quartz halogen bulb. LEDs typically last for 30,000 to 40,000 hours. Even burning from dusk to dawn (an estimated 12 hours) 365 days a year uses 4,380 hours, roughly 1/10th the life of the bulb.
Energy Consumption
An LED light uses approximately 80% less energy than the aforementioned incandescent or halogen bulbs. That’s a huge savings, especially in commercial applications, with a higher volume of fixtures burning from dusk to dawn.
Greater Variety
While it’s true that incandescent bulbs have a wide variety of wattages, LEDs have a greater variety of intensities, providing homeowners with more options to customize the intensity and beam spread. Intensity, beam spread, and color temperature are what determine the final look.
Color-changing Options
Fancy having orange and blue lighting during college football season? Or decorating with red and green lighting during the holidays? With the right installation, changing colors is at your fingertips via remote control or a mobile app. LEDs provide brilliant, clear, saturated color because the diodes are the actual color source. Special fixtures used at installation allow for color-changing LEDs; or you can install an additional system at a later date that works off a separate power source.
