The Look: Global Infusion
Naples is known for cool color palettes inspired by the beautiful blue skies and the Gulf of Mexico. But for some people, these colors don’t excite them or make them feel at home. Instead, they want their home filled with warmer tones and richer hues. Whatever palette you choose, your home should be inspired by your own experiences. Interior design is about infusing your personality and tastes into a space to create something that reflects you and tells your story. A great way to do this is by drawing on your past travel experiences. Maybe the blue waters of the Mediterranean were particularly inspiring or you loved the orange of the Arizona desert. Adding items you’ve purchased on your travels is also a great way to personalize the space and allows you to sprinkle memories throughout your home.
With this particular look, the family wanted to make their large home warm and accessible while bringing in reminders of their global excursions. They also wanted a space that reflected their own tastes—they were decidedly against the normal greys and blues found in Naples design, and were looking for a warmer aesthetic. Their extensive travels served as inspiration as we chose to accent a creamy backdrop with paprika, jade, copper, and dark wood. This is also a family home with the owner’s children coming to visit often so they needed surfaces that were durable as well as beautiful. We selected Sunbrella® fabric for the sofa as well as vinyls that look like leather and linens with high polyester content to ensure their pieces would stay vibrant and look new for years. Textures like those in the woven seagrass area rug add natural elements to the space and continue the look of the globally-inspired room.
We added a dark walnut accent wall above the built-in to bring in more of the warm wood tones the family prefers. It also complements the color of the beautiful wood floors and beams. Adding a dramatic light fixture with lots of movement, texture, and a international feel completed the living space.
